WOODY'S TAX DANCE - 04/15/05 - CONCORDIA CLUB

First Annual Tax Freedom Day Dance and Award
Event
April 15, 2005
Concordia Club
This event was sponsored by Larry and Sheila
Taylor/Woody and Deborah Holloway with the following groups in attendance: BBDA, Dr.
Dance, Concordia, a number of Montgomery dancers, and other friends. Fred Gipson provided
the music for an evening of ballroom dance and excitement. Wanda Fulton was our very
gracious photographer.
A tribute was presented by Larry Taylor in
memory of Pearl Hawkins who recently passed away. Miss Pearl had limitless energy, was
highly-respected by everyone, and will be sorely missed in the ballroom dance community.
The main purpose of this event was to announce
the creation of an organization whose focus is to honor a person or persons from the
Performing Arts to encompass those in "all walks of life". Deborah and Woody
Holloway, the originators of this event, want to give back to persons who have made a
difference in their lives by making a generous donation each year to a person or persons
who have worked for 25 years or more in their chosen field and who have been nominated by
their peers for this honor.
It was decided that the sponsors, Woody,
Deborah, Larry, and Sheila, along with the members of the greater Birmingham Dance
Community, want this year's Pearl Hawkins Trophy for the Performing Arts to be awarded to Kim Smith and Steve Hadley of Dr. Dance Studio.
Kim and Steve are about Grace, Elegance, Giving, Professionalism, and Patience. They are
both considered masters of their craft by their peers and students, which is demonstrated
each and every time they are asked to adjudicate at an event , do an exhibition, and/or teach a dance lesson to one of their students or a group.
