DANCE SOUTHEASTERN REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Atlanta, GA,
October 14/15 2005

A group of
Alabama dancers attended the event, enthusiastically supporting our
competitors. A wonderful two days of competition, social dancing and a
dinner dance.

Winners
of the BBDA scholarship |

Scott Vu, 21,
and Linara Axanova, 27, won the Collegiate Novice
International Latin competition at the Atlanta SE Regional
Dance competition in Atlanta. Performing, cha cha, samba
and rumba, these graduate students danced away with the
$200.00 scholarship awarded by the Birmingham Ballroom Dance
Association. They have sent us a
thank-you note.
The collegiate
competitors have been dancing less than 3 years. They are
students of Wayne and Marie Crowder of Eden, North Carolina.
There is a very active collegiate dance program at NC State.
Scott,
from Viet Nam is a doctoral student at N. C. State
majoring in Biomedical
Engineering. Starting college at the age of 14, he
developed an interest in dancing while in graduate
school.
Linara
Axanova from Russia finished her undergraduate studies
at Purdue University and is in the Cancer
Biology doctoral program at Wake Forest University. She
stated that she had been dancing for 2 years.
The
students stated that they fund their dance lessons by
scholarships and fellowships they win.
