July Lessons

Many people have asked for instruction in the line dance “Crazy Foot Mambo”.  Jackie Tally has agreed to teach this class at 6:30.  So come early to learn it for the first time or brush up on your skills.  This is a popular line dance performed at many of the local dances. Remember if you are learning the dance for the first time, get in the middle of the group of dancers. There will be experienced dancers on each side of you to follow as you turn to face the four walls of the dance.

Samba

We welcome Mack Wilson and his wife Hope back to Birmingham to teach this Latin Dance.

Many of us have seen the baby dancing the samba on You Tube.  Mack will teach you the proper steps to this fun dance and you don’t have to wear a diaper to participate.   If you have not seen the baby dancing the samba, this is the link to the video.     http://video.rr.com/?v=2bWThz8klTPW6mdgjyj9H76b1Ersmc8A

Thanks to Jonathan Baumeister and his assistant Rachel Buchan for the West Coast Swing lesson at our June Sunday afternoon dance. Rachel was a high school student of Curt and Wendy Johnson.  She has performed for us in the past and it was a treat to see her dance again.

Member Announcements

Woody Holloway has moved to the Mobile area.  He has resigned as Vice President of BBDA.  He will remain on the board. He promises to return to our dances as often as possible.

Chapter Elections will be held in October.  Under the new national bylaws, the election of nine members of the Board of Directors will be held for two-year board appointments. The chapter officers will be elected by the newly elected board. If you are interested in serving on the board as a director or as a committee chair, please contact Priscilla Collums.  Your chapter needs you.

Several of our members are going to participate in the USA Dance competition, Gumbo of Louisiana. We will have a report of their successes in our next newsletter. There will be a group of Birmingham dancers heading to Tunica, Mississippi and the 2010 All Star Dance Camp.  Along with multiple pairs of dance shoes to help get them thru their choice of 36 hours of dance lessons and performance routines, they will be sure to carry their own preferred brand of mosquito spray for the uninvited guests.

Ceal Ebert and Charlie Thornberg are teaching dance classes in Columbiana to an enthusiastic group of beginners.

August Dance Lesson

Our August 7, 2010 dance lesson will be Night Club Two Step taught by Chris and Emily Bailey.  This is a very popular dance similar to Bolero.

All our future dances in 2010 will be held on the first Saturday Night 7:00 to 10:00 P. M. at the Homewood Senior Center. Mark your calendars for August 7, September 4, October 2, November 6, and December 4.

Outreach

Dancers are needed to go to The Village at Cook Springs on Saturday, August 21 at 2:00 PM for an exhibition and to dance with the residents.  Please let Jackie Tally know if you are interested in going.  We always have a lot of fun sharing our love of dancing with the seniors.  We will probably car pooljgtally@aol.com
