WEDNESDAY & SATURDAY (This week ):

The Dance Bunch plans to be at WILD BILL's in Duluth on Wednesday and many will be at the Moose Lodge dance in McDonough on Saturday…

For SATURDAY it is again time for a trip south for the monthly line dance at the MOOSE LODGE in McDONOUGH GA.  The dance begins at 8:00 PM and goes to 11 PM.  Mark your calendar as this monthly dance is normally the 2nd Saturday of each month.

The Moose Dance is non-stop line (and a little couple) dancing of both old and new dances.  Many of the dances you do not know can easily be picked up on the floor. It is a very friendly crowd with everyone more than willing to make you feel comfortable and help with the dances and cost is only $5.

NOTE:  This is a polished concrete floor, so wear shoes accordingly as it does not slide like a wood one does but sure is better than vinyl tile.  Dancers “Foot Tubes” are available for purchase from Tommy and Lynn Bailey at the MOOSE.

Lynn Bailey runs a list at the front so it is your opportunity to request old and favorite ones, (bring the music if you have it just in case).

The dance area is SMOKE FREE.   There is a bar and you can purchase drinks at the Moose.

The Henry County Moose Lodge is located just off Georgia 155, west of I-75. For those wanting to look it up on Map Quest or Google Map or put it in your GPS, the technical address is:

91 Hunter Chase
McDonough, Georgia 30253

Take either I-675 or I-75 south of I-285 to the 5th exit below where 675 and 75 merge.  The Exit on I-75 is 216 which is Georgia Route 155.  This is the southern of the McDonough exits. At the bottom of the ramp, turn right toward Griffin, (Ga-155 south).   There will be a Quality (formerly Holiday) Inn on your right as you come off I-75.

Follow Ga-155 for about a mile and turn RIGHT into the entrance to the "Hunters' Run" subdivision on your right. You MUST turn into the subdivision entrance street to get to the driveway for the Moose Lodge. The Lodge drive does not connect directly to Ga-155.

Once inside, follow the hall around to the right to the rear of the building for their ballroom. It is a tile floor. Come on down and give it a shot...

If you are coming from the Loganville - Lawrenceville or Grayson area, Get on Georgia 20 going south and follow this through Conyers, Magnet, and into McDonough.  Once in McDonough where Ga-20 goes right, (toward the square) you keep going straight so watch the signs and stay on Ga-155 south.  This will circle around and once you go under I-75, you will see the Quality Inn on your right and the directions above will apply.

WEST COAST SWING (WCS)

ATLANTA SWING DANCERS CLUB (ASDC)

www.atlantaswingdancers.com

Thanks goes to Alan Annicella for hosting a successful event at Fernbank last Friday, and to Jeramy Govert for the idea of inviting Stephen White and Sabrina Paxmann to teach the Advanced Technique classes on Sunday; we had a perfect even match of 15 leads and 15 follows. Alan and Jeramy illustrate great community leadership and collaborative innovation; please thank them personally.

People have asked me what's cooking inside the WCS R&D Lab. We have two projects that have been in research mode for 6-12 months.

The first idea which is credited to Aaron Williams is the idea of a Jack and Jill (J&J) WCS circuit in metro Atlanta. This is also a very collaborative and community based idea to engage not only metro Atlanta, but the entire state of Georgia. We will initiate the idea starting on May 20th, and the J&J competition will culminate at the ASDC's Atlanta Swing Classic as the Georgia State West Coast Swing Championships. We encourage all dancers to participate in J&J's because it is fun and entertaining, and a rewarding learning experience towards becoming a better WCS dancer. It also teaches you that you should socially dance with everyone possible.

The second idea is to develop a Mentorship program whereby Advanced level dancers will pair up with first time basic beginners through the six week basic series. It is proposed that mentors will attend ASDC Int/Adv lessons and social dancing for free during the 6 week basic series program for mentoring a beginner and accelerating their initial mastery of the basic series, help them understand the language of WCS, and welcome them to our family and community. The initial sixteen page draft of the idea has been submitted and is being worked on and discussed. If you have an interest in participating with the development of the program please email: president@atlantaswingdancers.com

If you would like to participate on the next ASDC Board of Directors please use this survey link to let us know which of the board positions you are interested.

Please congratulate Brian Rickmond on winning the 2012 ASDC Logo Contest. He was presented with $100 and a commemorative plaque for his work and contribution to the ASDC. If you would like to participate with ASDC Marketing please contact Miki Bell who is the 2nd VP and is responsible for product development: 2vp@atlantaswingdancers.com

Have a fantastic day,

He also performs this stunt live and the number typically climaxes with Dupree slicing up a wooden stool onstage, smashing it, and throwing the sliced pieces out to the crowd. I would like to share an experience with you, about drinking and driving.

As you well know, some of us have been known to have had brushes with the authorities on our way home from the odd social session over the years.

A couple of nights ago, I was out for a few drinks with some friends at the Marriott Hotel and had a few too many beers and some rather nice red wine.

Knowing full well I may have been slightly over the limit, I did something I've never done before: I took a bus home. Sure enough I passed a police road block but as it was a bus, they waved it past.

I arrived home safely without incident, which was a real surprise; as I have never driven a bus before and am not sure where I got it but it was in the front yard this morning when I got up…...

Did you know…

THE TAX SYSTEM EXPLAINED IN BEER
Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100...
If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this...
The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
 The fifth would pay $1.
 The sixth would pay $3.
 The seventh would pay $7..
 The eighth would pay $12.
 The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.
So, that's what they decided to do..

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve ball. "Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20". Drinks for the ten men would now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes. So the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men ? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his fair share?

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from every body's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer.

So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by a higher percentage the poorer he was, to follow the principle of the tax system they had been using, and he proceeded to work out the amounts he suggested that each should now pay.

And so the fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% saving).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% saving).
The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% saving).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% saving).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% saving).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% saving).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But, once outside the bar, the men began to compare their savings.

"I only got a dollar out of the $20 saving," declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man, "but he got $10!"

"Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar too. It's unfair that he got ten times more benefit than me!"

"That's true!" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $10 back, when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!"

"Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison, "we didn't get anything at all. This new tax system exploits the poor!"  The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had their beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and government ministers, is how our tax system works. The people who already pay the highest taxes will naturally get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas, where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.
